There has been fighting now for three days, the people have been victorious by uniting in their common cause for their liberty. Many of my friends fought in the conflict, but I myself did not. I was busy protecting the collections in the Louvre from looters and the rioters, and now everything is safe.

I have decided to make the composition like a pyramid in the centre as this will represent the pinnacle of victory. There will be corpses at the bottom of the picture and they will resemble a pedestal for the victors.
My name is Delacroix. I am a painter in Paris and was born on 26th April 1798. My painting of Liberty Leading the People was painted in 1830 and exhibited at the salon in 1831.
